About

Focus and Scope

Focus
The Journal publishes original articles on research, essays, systematization of professional experiences, methodologies, and best practices; as well as policy analyses, interviews with national and international colleagues, historical analyses, reviews, critiques of books and theses, information on congresses, seminars, and academic and professional activities, and debates on topics of professional interest.

Scope
It is the official publication of the College of Social Workers of Costa Rica, with editorial independence from the Board of Directors. It specializes in the field of social work in Costa Rica and Central America. It constitutes an open space for knowledge, experiences, and contributions not only from academia but also from professionals working in both the private and public sectors. The Journal prioritizes contributions from social work professionals; however, professionals from other fields may participate as long as their contributions align with the Journal’s interests.

The Journal provides immediate open access to its content, as it believes that offering the public free access to its publications contributes to the exchange of knowledge and the sharing of experiences.

Digital Preservation Policy

The Journal is published and managed through the Open Journal Systems (OJS), a content management system designed for journal editorial management. This system preserves and manages document submissions, retains copies of the different stages they go through, and stores reviewers’ comments and evaluation results.

As preservation measures, the following practices have been adopted:

The OJS system is hosted on the web server provided by the College of Social Workers of Costa Rica. The company responsible for its administration maintains daily backups and duplicate copies of the data.

The person responsible for the platform performs weekly backups of manuscripts under editing and final results; these backups are also duplicated on the web server in compressed files.

Locally, the editor maintains copies of submitted manuscripts, reviews, and published articles.

The College of Social Workers maintains a printed archive of issues published before 2017; from that date onward, a digital copy is maintained on the institution’s local server. Additionally, the LOCKSS system is used to create a distributed archiving system among collaborating libraries, allowing them to create permanent archives of the Journal for preservation and restoration purposes.
