Abstract
Este artículo trata sobre las trayectorias teóricas en debate, relacionadas con la investigación en el campo del trabajo social, insertas en la dinámica de la historia contemporánea. Se ocupa de registrar los rumbos tomados en el desarrollo temático de la investigación académica en la Escuela de Trabajo Social, referidos al contexto de la particularidad costarricense. Concluye con algunas reflexiones sobre los desafíos existentes para producir conocimiento crítico relevante y pertinente socialmente, en consonancia con la creciente barbarización de la vida social expresada en una complejidad de expresiones de la cuestión social, una minimización de las respuestas del Estado y un fuerte retorno hacia el asistencialismo, control, represión y criminalización de la pobreza y la protesta ciudadana.
